The ASCE<\/a> published last month guidelines for designing an online contaminant monitoring system for water systems.<\/p>\n

The following is from the ASCE<\/a> web site:
\n“Interim Voluntary Guidelines for Designing an Online Contaminant Monitoring System provides information on designing online contaminant monitoring systems, including assessing the need for a monitoring system, locating instruments and sensors, and responding to suspected contamination events. Training and outreach materials for each of the guidelines are currently being developed and will be available in spring 2005. The guidance documents, along with feedback from industry professionals and additional research, will be the basis for the development of voluntary consensus standards, to be published in late 2006.”<\/i>

\nThe guide includes the following chapters:
\nChapter 1 – The Contamination Problem
\nChapter 2 – Rationale for Online Monitoring and System Design Basics
\nChapter 3 – Using Contaminant Lists and Determining Concentrations to be Detected
\nChapter 4 – Selection and Siting of Instruments and Platforms
\nChapter 5 – Data Analysis and the Use of Models
\nChapter 6 – Communication System Requirements
\nChapter 7 – Responses to Contamination Events
\nChapter 8 – Interfacing With Existing Surveillance Systems
\nChapter 9 – Operations, Maintenance, Upgrades, and Exercise of the System <\/p>\n
